About
The Catholic Diocese of Port Elizabeth serves the Eastern Cape through worship, education, and outreach, caring for parishes, schools, and the poor, and building hope for future generations.
The Catholic Diocese of Port Elizabeth is a faith-based, non-profit organisation serving communities across the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Rooted in a tradition of service, dignity, and social justice, the Diocese supports more than 200,000 Catholic faithful and reaches hundreds of thousands more through its extensive network of parishes, schools, welfare programmes, and community facilities.
Through over 60 parishes, missions, and outreach centres, the Diocese delivers a wide range of public benefit services including education and youth formation, social and welfare support, community development, pastoral care, and humanitarian assistance. These services are provided through churches, parish halls, catechetical centres, and community spaces that function as vital hubs for learning, support, and social cohesion, particularly in under-resourced and rural areas.
Guided by Catholic Social Teaching, the Diocese is committed to promoting human dignity, uplifting vulnerable communities, and fostering sustainable development.
Its work integrates spiritual care with practical support, ensuring that faith-based spaces remain places of hope, inclusion, and positive transformation for individuals, families, and communities throughout the region.
